GATE 2026 is a national-level  entrance exam organized by IIT Guwahati. More than 600,000 candidates appeared for the GATE exam. The GATE 2026 result date has been announced on March 19, 2026, by IIT Guwahati on the GOAPS portal.  The candidates can log in to the GOAPS portal (gate2026.iitg.ac.in) to view their GATE score by using their enrollment ID.  The release date for Scorecard is March 27 and will be accessible for free till May 31. GATE is a prestigious national-level entrance test jointly organised by seven IITs (IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee, and IIT Guwahati) and IISc Bangalore to assist post-graduate admission to candidates in highly reputed institutions and jobs in the leading public sector organisations. How to Check GATE Result 2026 — Step-by-Step Guide

The candidates who appeared for GATE exam can now check their results through the GOAPS portal using their enrollment ID or registered email ID and password. The steps to check the result via the GOAPS portal have been stated as:

  • Visit the official website: Navigate to gate2026.iitg.ac.in.
  • Access GOAPS portal: Click on the “GATE 2026 Result” or “Candidate Login” link to reach goaps.iitg.ac.in
  • Enter credentials: Candidates need to log in using their registered enrollment ID/Email address and password.
  • Verify result details: Click submit, and the dashboard will exhibit name, application number, date of birth, gender, raw marks, AIR and qualifying status.
  • Secure the document: Download the result page. The official scorecard for qualified students will only be available for download starting 27 March 2026. The candidates can save a screenshot or print the result page for reference

Incorrect login details: 
Problem: Wrong enrollment ID/Email/Password
Fix: Use the “forgot password” option on the GOAPS portal, check email for the correct enrollment ID and ensure that the caps lock is off. 

Website not loading/server error: 
Problem: Heavy traffic on the very first day and site crash.
Fix: Try again after some time, use a different browser or clear the browser cache. 

Slow internet/page timeout:
Problem: Page not opening or taking too long
Fix: Switch to a stable internet connection, avoid mobile data incase network is weak, and refresh the page once reconnected. 

Account locked:
Problem: Several wrong login attempts.
Fix: Wait for 30-60 minutes or reset password instantly. 

Scorecard not available:

Fix: Only qualified students can download it instantly. Other individuals can check marks only. The students can even wait for the official scorecard release date.

Problem: File not downloading or opening
Fix: It should be ensured that the PDF reader is installed, or try downloading again, or use another device in case it’s required. 

Forgot registration details:
Problem: Lost enrollment ID/password
Fix: Check the registered email inbox or use the “forgot enrollment ID” option in GOAPS.

Marks vs Score vs Rank 

Marks: The maximum marks obtained in the exam are 100. Score and rank is calculated on the basis of correct answers. 

GATE Score: A normalised score ranges between 0-1000. GATE Score can be calculated by considering the marks attained the difficulty level of the paper, and the performance of all students.

Rank (AIR): Relative position among all candidates in that paper

Normalisation pertains to high-volume papers: CE, CS, EC, EE, ME (multi-session exams)

Negative marking rules (for result context)

MCQ 

  • 1-mark MCQ: −1/3 for each wrong answer
  • 2-mark MCQ: −2/3 for each wrong answer

NAT (Numerical Answer Type): No negative marking as a numerical value is entered

MSQ (Multi-Select Questions): No negative marking, but a candidate must select all correct options to attain marks. Though partial marking may be given in certain cases.
